Details:

Wake the Giant is Canada’s largest student focused, cultural awareness project, and one of the most meaningful music festivals in the country! It’s not just a concert, it’s a movement.

Every year it becomes one giant welcome party for Indigenous youth that move to Thunder Bay to attend Dennis Frankly Cromarty (DFC) High School.

Wake the Giant started in 2019. It was created with a simple goal: to help communities recognize racism, celebrate Indigenous culture, and support Indigenous youth transitioning into city life in Thunder Bay.

Presented by Northern Nishnawbe Education Council (NNEC), this isn’t your typical music festival. One minute you’re singing along to your favourite artist, the next, you’re in a Round Dance with people you just met. The Thunder Bay Waterfront comes alive with tunes, traditional drums, the smell of bannock tacos, and the ringing of jingle dresses. Festival goers dance, learn and might even leave with a new perspective (and definitely a new festival hoodie!) It’s a whole experience.
