Since 1954, the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority (LRCA) has led the conservation and protection of the Lakehead Watershed towards the vision of a healthy, safe and sustainable Lakehead Watershed for future generations. Learn how the Neebing Valley Conservation Authority evolved into the LRCA as we know it today, and how we will be evolving further into the future. From flood forecasting, water level monitoring and development regulations to land stewardship, environmental education, and, of course, recreation at our ten Conservation Areas, we will discuss the core roles and responsibilities of the Conservation Authority as well as the other programs we undertake for the enhancement and protection of our local natural resources.

Prerenter Bio:

Ryan Mackett has been the Communications Manager for the LRCA since 2011. Ryan’s role at the Authority includes corporate communications, all graphic design, marketing and brand identity functions, special events planning, social media oversight, and the administration of the LRCA’s outdoor environmental education program, among many other duties. Ryan was born and raised in Thunder Bay and is a lifelong resident. He is a graduate of Lakehead University with an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Education. Ryan is also an artist, writer, photographer, and graphic designer.

About the Free Public Lecture Series

The Thunder Bay Museum’s Free Public Lecture series explores a wide range of topics connected to the history, people, communities, environment, and culture of Thunder Bay and Northwestern Ontario.

Lectures are generally held on the fourth Tuesday of each month from September through March and are free and open to the public.

For those attending in person, light refreshments will be served following the presentation.

Can’t make it? Many Museum lectures are recorded and later made available through the Thunder Bay Museum’s YouTube channel.

Members of The Thunder Bay Historical Museum Society receive advance notice of upcoming lectures, along with a variety of other Museum benefits.
