Our popular concert-lecture pairing series is back with Daylight is Dawning: Finnish Chamber Music in Finland and Canada. This series offers an opportunity for culture, music, and history lovers alike to experience the Thunder Bay Museum's exhibits through sound.
Three string quartets will take you on a cultural journey from early 20th-century Finland to the contributions of the Finnish diaspora in Canada today. The performance is paired with a 20-minute illustrated talk to guide you through the inner lives of the composers, giving unique context to our Finnish Labour Temple exhibit.
Featuring: Jean Sibelius’s Voces Intimae (1909), Einojuhani Rautavaara’s String Quartet No. 1 (1952), and Matthew Whittall’s Bright Ferment (2019).
